A cream sweater, a striped shirt, a pair of trousers. Change where the layers finish, or repeat one colour, and the same three pieces look considered rather than assembled.
Simona Bertolotto is 55, Italian, and posts as @sissiottostyle. Her outfits have personality even when they are a sweater and trousers — because of what happens between the pieces, not the pieces themselves. Five of those moves, as we read them.
1 — Connect the colour
Her red jacket sits over deeper wine; her orange knit repeats a colour from her checked coat. Take one colour out of a pattern you own and repeat it in something plain — or pair a bright shade with a deeper relative, red with burgundy, green with olive.
2 — Vary the layer lengths
A shorter knit stops higher; a longer shirt underneath gives coverage and a second edge. Start with a shirt you like untucked and check the side as well as the front. Shorter frame? Change the distance between the hems, not the idea.
3 — Mix the surfaces
Rib, smooth wool and a small pattern stop close shades from merging. Before adding another colour, change one surface — a crisp shirt under a soft cardigan. Choose two you can tell apart from mirror distance.
4 — Repeat your signature
Her bangles return across outfits that have nothing else in common. Yours might be a watch or a scarf you have worn for years. Turning back a cuff often does more than adding a second bracelet.
5 — Add an everyday companion
A checked blazer becomes wearable beside jeans and loafers. Choose one expressive piece and build around something dependable — you can borrow the relationship without finding the exact jacket.
“Same clothes. One relationship changed. A completely different outfit.”
Does one colour repeat? · Do the hems end at different heights? · Can you tell two surfaces apart? · Is one familiar detail visible? · Is there something dependable underneath?
Change one thing tomorrow, sit down in it, and keep the version that feels like you.
