Your Codes
At 24, Gillian Anderson wore suits that swallowed her. At 58, you recognise her silhouette before you see her face. We went through more than 200 photos of her, from the 1990s to this September, and the same five decisions kept coming back.
None of them asks you to look younger. All of them ask you to look decided. And every one can be copied with clothes you most likely already own.
1 · The white collar
A dark knit over a white shirt. Collar out over the neckline, cuffs folded back about 2 cm.
2 · Oversized, but finished
The seam sits on your shoulder, the cuff or wrist shows, the trousers fall straight to the shoe.
3 · A dark base, one loud accessory
Big earrings, a red bag or a brooch at the collar. One, and bigger than you think.
4 · One colour, shoulder to hem
One colour family in three pieces. Slight differences in shade are fine; different colours are not.
5 · The classic with a twist
Your plaid skirt, the plainest black knit you own, and a sleek modern shoe instead of the heavy boot.
The free card puts it all on one page: the five codes, how to copy each one, the three questions to ask instead of “Am I too old for this?”, and space to write your own codes. Print it and keep it by your wardrobe.
